Structures (Mid) – Lead Engineer in England

Critical to the implementation of iStream Superlight are integral modules and systems engineered by Gordon Murray Electronics which deliver a range of electrical functionalities - these technologies also being scaleable to serve the delivery demands of any specific platform configuration.

With multiple sites in Shalford, Dunsfold and Warwick, the Gordon Murray Technologies continues to grow with multiple vehicle programmes currently in development. As a result, we currently have exciting opportunities for Lead Engineer Structures - MID to join our Structures Team in either Shalford or Warwick.

Responsibilities:

The Lead Mid Structure engineer will lead and guide the design team on the mid zone design.
The lead engineer will work closely with the other function groups such as styling, interior, exterior and electrification to ensure the structures package is fully integrated.
The lead engineer will be responsible for working and defining the side impact crash requirements for the project and work closely with the CAE team to deliver a structure that meets the project attributes for safety, stiffness and NVH
Experience and Qualifications:

Good structural design knowledge for crash, stiffness and NVH.
Knowledge of castings, extrusions, composite materials
Knowledge of joining technologies such as bonding, welding, SPR's and FDS.
Experience of structural battery enclosures and battery protection design. Must fully understand the structural requirements of ECE R100 regulation
Have experience in packaging and working cross functionally with interior, exterior, styling, electrical and analysis.
Be able to set timing and plan activities for the mid structure to meet project gateways and deliverables.
Organise and run weekly meetings with the Mid design team in a structured manner and be able to define work packages for the structures design team.
Must have a good understanding and experience of interior and exterior interfaces and requirements and impact on the structure.
Must have a thorough understanding of GD & T and datum strategies for the structure.
Good understanding of manufacturing techniques for castings, tube manipulation, welding and bonding.
The lead must work closely with the manufacturing concept team to ensure the structure fits assembly techniques, process, and assembly build time.
Be able to drive the design team to deliver optimised light weight structures in line with iStream philosophy and direction.
Monitor the weekly progress of the Mid zone and report status to the project principal, head of structures and technical director.
Have a good knowledge and understanding of crash legislation for Side impact.
Have good presentation skills to be able to present to higher management the progress and maturation of the Mid structure throughout the project and present timing for the activities required.
The Mid Lead must also drive the testing program and activities to prove out concept of the Mid structure and Battery structural frame and manage the test plan with the structures project manager, and work closely with Vehicle development team to deliver the Mid structure.
The lead engineer must set the highest standards for the design team and manage the permanent and contract Mid design team to deliver against the project timing.
The lead must have a holistic approach to the integration for the Mid structure into the whole frame design and work as one team with the Front and rear structures teams.
