ARMs client is recruiting for a Propulsion Test Technician to join the Propulsion Engine Test Centre in Bedford. The successful role holder will be responsible for running Propulsion systems in a test-bed environment and all associated aspects from set-up through test cell configuration, servicing, and running of both automated and manual sequences. The Technician's work will contribute towards the successful completion of end-to-end customer test programmes on a variety of prototype units, from downsized units with a focus on economy and emissions through to high-output units with a performance focus. The technician's role will be supported by the Engineering team.

Responsibilities

Ensure all Health and Safety and quality procedures have been adhered to
Contribute towards unit palletisation Installation and setup of instrumentation and test cell automation system configuration as required by the Engineering team
Validate basic engine running and associated fluid and boost conditioning systems in the test cell environment
Be part of a team that contributes towards running customer test requirements in a test cell for specific customer development programs
Identify and diagnose unit faults, both mechanical and electrical, working with the Engineering team to deliver effective solutions
Carry out servicing and hardware changes
Run the test cell using a mix of automated test cycles and manual operation leading into more complex calibration tasks with support from Engineering and Calibration teams
Be the first line in quality control and unit test data validation
Take ownership of the unit, equipment, and hardware in the test cell
Able to liaise with supporting staff, Engineers, Supervisors, and customers on a technical level
Continue and improvement of initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency
Act in accordance with the behaviors for UTAC staff at all times

About you...

City and Guilds and/or Full Apprenticeship. Alternatively ONC/HNC or similar in Automotive Engineering
A sound automotive background, preferably within a test cell environment but candidates will be considered from other automotive disciplines
Excellent understanding of engine fundamentals and related systems
Ability to work with minimal supervision and instruction following completion of the probationary period
Willingness to take responsibility for own work and offer support to others
Excellent teamwork ethics
Good time management and organisation
Respect for Health and Safety procedures and practices
A professional attitude under pressure and good communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and quality

Ideally you will have...

Experience of both gasoline and diesel testing, preferably in complex testing environments with a variety of testing techniques and equipment (pressure and temperature instrumentation, emissions measurement, etc.)
Experience of AVL and ETAS test bed related equipment and automation systems
Able to complete Electrical wiring assemblies
Experience with Lithium Ion Batteries (preferably Automotive)
Aware of Electrical automotive High Voltage (to 1000V DC) connectivity techniques
Experience in test automation software (AVL PUMA and/or Horiba STARS), indicating software (AVL Indicom, ETAS INCA), analysis software (AVL Concerto)

Full UK driving licence & own transport (Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport)
Willing to undergo a Basic Disclosure (DBS) check
