We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Development Facilities Manager, to be involved in in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.

Job Purpose:

The Development Engineering organisation is accountable for proving that the SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements. This encompasses not just the domain of nuclear engineering, but the broader range of engineering functions necessary to deliver a major infrastructure project. The team's remit includes defining the Verification Strategy for the power station, and also executing any verification activities that involve testing - and these range from laboratory-type tests through to highly complex system-level rig tests in some world-leading facilities.

We now have an opportunity for a Development Facilities Manager to lead the development of our test facilities. Initially focused on delivering a facility for our Control Room Demonstrator, the role will also capture and manage requirements from multiple stakeholders for future development facilities and manage their deployment.

Key Results:

Reporting to the Test Capability Manager, the Development Facilities Manager will lead the scoping and delivery of all required facilities. The scope currently includes a facility to include a demonstrator control room, and requirements development for a facility which will incorporate our control room simulator.

  • They will define and lead the Development Test Facilities strategy, based on inputs from Engineering, Verification, Property, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Business Development, Finance, etc.
  • They will integrate and own the plan to ensure delivery to cost, quality and schedule.
  • They will provide guidance and coaching to their team on both technical and governance related matters.
  • They will identify and drive synergies across the tests within their portfolio (e.g. how to optimise test facility usage).
  • They will ensure risks and lessons learnt are managed throughout.
  • They will manage resource within their team to drive delivery and best utilise individual's strengths.
  • They will lead, support and develop individuals within their team.
  • They will drive for continuous improvement within their team and the wider organisation.

The Key Selection Criteria:

  1. An engineering mindset and experience in delivering test facilities for instrumentation and control or process systems.
  1. Experience of directly leading multi-discipline teams to deliver to cost, quality and schedule.

  1. The ability to take complex information, understand it and present it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders & audiences within and outside of your area of expertise.

  1. A proactive, positive attitude, with the desire and ability to learn fast, challenge conventional thinking and make a difference.

  1. The ability to model strong and positive safety behaviours and to instil it in others, including respectfully challenging others and taking the initiative to build a strong safety culture.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Previous experience within Facilities Management within Nuclear OR a highly regulated sector.
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • Be professionally recognised through an appropriate professional body or be working towards it.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £60,000 - £70,000 plus:-

  • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
