The Technical Author is responsible for the creation and control of technical publications to support GMA products throughout the Service Lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Create and manage technical publications, simplifying complex systems into structured and understandable content for applicable end users. Publication examples include:
- Workshop manuals. (Maintenance repair operations), along with warranty labour times.
- Support the development and delivery of key Owners Literature.
- Description and Operation documents (Vehicle system overviews)
- Wiring information.
- Support in the creation of service campaign documentation.
- Body Repair Information.
- Accessory build instructions (where appropriate).
- Support in the delivery of e-learning training modules, diagnostic publications and user guides (where appropriate).
- Work within the programme to promote and protect authoring requirements and standards.
- Gather, collate and interpret engineering information from governed sources.
- Lead validation activities in conjunction with key stakeholders.
- Co-ordinate data from/to third party suppliers to progress any outsourced workstreams.
- Assist in the development of supporting systems and portals.
- To action any other task and/or projects to match business requirements. Any request that may affect workload is to be approved through the Service Engineering Manager prior to the commencement of work.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of whole vehicle service, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Computer literate - Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Proven track record for project and task management.
- Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
- Approachable and adaptable to change.
- Proactive and autonomous.
- Comfortable challenging existing processes.
- Mobile and willing to travel as required (limited travel anticipated within role)
- Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
- Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
- Must be a team player.
Desirable
- Educated to degree level or equivalent desirable.
- Previous hands-on experience of whole vehicle service, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Experience of using CAD visualisation tools (CATIA/Enovia/3DX Experience.
- Bill of Materials or change management experience is desirable.
- Proven experience in authoring technical publications for targeted end users.
- Experience of working within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 Supplier.
