About the Role:
The Energy Division at ARM is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Building Services) to join a Global Engineering and Design Consultancy, working on projects within the nuclear sector in Glasgow, Newcastle, or Warrington.
Some of your Duties will include.
- Gaining a thorough understanding of project briefs
- Designing and specifying all Mechanical Building Services systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and controls
- Conducting detailed calculations using industry-standard software tools like Excel, IES, Hevacomp, and in-house tools
- Preparing technical specifications using NBS
- Collaborating with the BIM team to create models and drawings, with a working knowledge of Autodesk Revit
- Representing in meetings with clients and contractors
- Conducting site surveys, inspections, and monitoring site work
- Writing reports and technical notes
- Maintaining complete records and archives in accordance with company standards
- Adhering to all quality, environmental, and governance processes
- Managing own workload, regularly updating the forward plan, and adhering to time allocations
- Managing aspects of project delivery and understanding budget costings
- Reviewing progress and reporting any anomalies or scope changes to the project lead
- Assisting with the technical development of junior staff
What do you need to succeed?
- Hold a degree in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or possess an equivalent qualification.
- Be a Chartered Engineer or be actively working towards obtaining this certification with either CIBSE or IMechE.
- Exhibit a proficient level of computer literacy, particularly in the use of digital tools such as IES thermal modelling package, Hevacomp, Navisworks, NBS, and Microsoft packages.
- Demonstrate knowledge of energy reduction methods and strategies for decarbonising both new and existing buildings
- Have some understanding of energy and carbon data collection and analysis.
- Be familiar with the principles of building physics, including passive design solutions and fabric-first approaches.
- Possess some knowledge of designing for measurement and verification, including experience with commissioning, and evaluating performance after installation.
- Have experience working in a design consultancy or contractor design environment (desirable)
- Have a good understanding of relevant technical standards in the field.
- Be capable of independently managing personal project deliverables, making decisions regarding the development of design elements, and demonstrating a proactive approach.
- Display strong report writing skills and have experience presenting to clients and attending meetings.
- Feel comfortable working within designated time and cost budgets as agreed upon during project briefings.
