The role
As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will initially be focusing on the implementation of the baseband processing within the wireless physical layer. This will be for testing in the laboratory and on demonstrator aircraft.
The role includes technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials, and product delivery. You will be responsible for the delivery of specific work package tasks to implement the wireless physical layer in Firmware and ongoing development to support system trials.
This includes:
- Firmware design and analysis
- Production of documentation for other engineers and evidence for design reviews
- Development of Firmware test and integration plans
- Perform system integration work with PCB designers, analogue RF engineers, and embedded software engineers.
- Support of firmware designs through the company firmware process - training will be provided.
- Modification of existing firmware designs and test benches
- Estimation of development time for proposed changes
Required Experience:
- Experience with standard firmware design tools preferably ModelSim, Xilinx Vivado and FPGA architectures such as Xilinx UltraScale.
- Digital/FPGA signal processing systems
- FPGA architectures such as Xilinx 7
- Specifying complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and Route
- System Integration Testing
- Experience in verification techniques using either VHDL, System Verilog or UVM
- Making technical decisions and mitigating technical risks for Firmware design activities
- De-bugging firmware designs and supporting verification and integration at hardware and system level, alongside Software and Hardware Engineers.
- Wireless Networks & Wireless Communications
- Experience in either TCL or Verilog,
- Knowledge of delivering within a structured design process, ideally to DO-254.
Active SC is required for this role
Desired Skills:
- Internet Protocol (IP) networks
- Wireless Air Interface Standards
- Knowledge of Wireless Air Interface Standards (including modulation and coding schemes).
- Experience in communication system analysis/modeling/simulation tools (MATLAB preferred).
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing.
- Project experience in Software Defined Radios.
