Senior Engineer – Body Structures in Surrey

PermanentRole Guidelines:
General Characteristics:
- Independently applies extensive knowledge of principles and practices in either a broad area of related fields or a specific subject area
- Uses advanced techniques in the modification or extension of engineering practices to complete assignments
- Leads projects tasks of moderate scope and complexity
Typical Technical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for design and/or engineering a functional area or multiple systems or processes
- Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials or products
- Assists upper levels management and staff within a technical specialism
- Prepares full project documents
- Formulates and solves problems
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Assists with proposal for future projects
- Prepares and manages scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments
- Directs and coordinates engineers to complete defined assignments
Direction Received:
- Received general direction on key objectives
- Receives guidance as required on unconventional or complex problems, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria
- Receives supervision relating to critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters
Communication skills:
- Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others
- Regularly attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Typical Experience:
- 5+ years
- Engineering council professional registration
- Member of professional practice organisation member of local representative committee
- Involved with outreach activities focuses towards higher education and professional bodies
Departmental Responsibilities:
- Ownership of relevant section
- 3D package modelling
- Manage interface with styling
- Engineering responsibility (including design and release) of full vehicle body systems:
- Occupant cell
- Crash management
- Sub frames
- Structural floors
- Design for manufacture and assembly for responsible components
- Ensuring responsible designs meet legal compliance
- Work Package Management
- Design Sizing Analysis
- Sub system loads
- Joints and interfaces
- Materials selection
- Bolt calculations
- Cost, timing and mass
Miscellaneous:
- Identify and highlight any areas for continuous improvement
- Ensure that your technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date
- Mentor and support professional development of all colleagues, particularly junior staff
- To perform any other duties that may well be reasonably expected within the remit of the role
- To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility
Remuneration:
- Hours: 40 hours - Full time in office (4 flexi WFH days per month)- Managers discretion
