Senior DMU Engineer - Design Office Data Management

The aim of this document is to describle the purpose, typical duties, and expectations of the Senior DMU Engineer with Gordon Murray Design

Principal Accountabilities:

The key accountabilities of the Design Office Data Management (DODM) function are to control new part number allocation, BoM structure and change management, Engineering release process, accountability of the GMG Part Standards, Methods, and Processes, DMU data, Drawing drafting and checking, PLM system implementation, and GMD Macro and Database Management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Use and promote best practices for Digital Mock-Up (DMU) / CAD clean up.
• Updating, positioning and package checking of fixings.
• Support vehicle programs through the entire life cycle including design, prototype builds, vehicle test, and production.
• Lead execution of virtual builds in preparation for physical prototype builds.
• Perform mechanical design and packaging of vehicle components to meet system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for efficiency, cost, weight, ergonomics, manufacturability, and serviceability.
• Demonstrate the packaging and feasibility studies using simulation workbench DMU Kinematics.
• Perform vehicle build analysis using DMU Fitting & DMU Navigator workbench from DfM perspective.
• Carry out package checks, both dynamic and static.
• Demonstrate ability to handle multiple competing work assignments from engineering, studio, and manufacturing.
• Support CAD studies for vehicle variants and platform studies.
• Support teams in solving packaging issues.
• Assess complete package integrity at regular intervals, from a static BOM.
• Assist with the creation and documentation of part specific composite layup manuals, and the transfer of these manuals to external suppliers.
• To monitor system efficiency and propose changes to improve working functionality.
• Carry out any other duties that may be requested of you.

Qualification and Experience:

It is anticipated that you will have at least 6 years' experience in the relevant automotive industry and have evident experience working within a demanding team environment.

You will be expected to have a solid understanding of design standards, material standards and engineering drawing standards. A good working knowledge of whole vehicle design is essential.

In addition, the following attributes are expected.

• Proven success in applying design standards in automotive or other applicable industries.
• Experience of engineering drawing standards, specifically BS8888/ASME.
• Capable of reading engineering drawings from a manufacturing and material supply perspective.
• Clear and effective communication.
• Relevant experience in CATIA V5/V6.
• Knowledge of 3D Experience and/or IFS a distinct advantage.

Miscellaneous:

• To perform any other duties that may well be expected within the remit of the role.
• To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility.
• In addition to the above responsibilities for Gordon Murray Design, the job also involves similar duties to be conducted for any future subsidiary companies within the Gordon Murray Group.
