Principal Engineer - Powertrain
Role Guidelines:

General Characteristics
* Applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the business and its projects
* Leads significant project tasks and/or oversees elements of multiple projects with respect to a functional area
Typical Technical Responsibilities
* Serves as a technical specialist for the organisation in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area
* Serves as technical authority on one or more functional areas across multiple programmes
* Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments
* Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the organisation, providing recommendations for new practices
Managerial Responsibilities
* Supervises staff allocated to specific assignments
* Plans , schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects, or is responsible for an entire project functional area
* Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures
Direction Received
* Receives administrative supervision with assignments being given in terms of broad general objectives and bounds
Communication skills
* Routinely interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors and others
* Leads project meetings and delivers presentations
* Represents the organisation and maintains liaison with individuals in specific contexts
Typical Experience
* 10 + years
Typical professional qualifications and community activities
* Engineering council professional registration
* Member of professional practice organisation
* Personally managed CPD portfolio
* Serves on local professional committees

Departmental Responsibilities:
* Engineering responsibility (including design and release) of full vehicle powertrain systems:
o ICE Powertrain Systems
o Electric Powertrain Systems
o Power Electronics
o Powertrain Calibration
o Battery Systems
o Lubrication Systems
o Transmission Systems
o Powertrain NVH and Heatshielding
o Thermal Management Systems
* Design for manufacture and assembly for responsible components and assemblies
* Ensuring responsible designs meet legal compliance
* Work Package Management
* System package
* Subsystem specification and analysis
* Component concept design and analysis
* Component and system specification
* Technical procurement support
* Outsource supplier management to budget and timing
* Design Sizing Analysis
o Sub system loads
o Joints and interfaces
o Materials selection
o Bolt calculations

Miscellaneous:
* Identify and highlight any areas for continuous improvement
* Ensure that your technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date
* To perform any other duties that may well be reasonably expected within the remit of the role
* To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility
