We are seeking an experienced Metrology Inspector to join a precision manufacturing team. This role is responsible for programming, editing, and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to inspect high-volume manufactured components. You will also carry out manual inspections using a range of precision measuring equipment, ensuring products meet quality standards and customer requirements.
The successful candidate will produce inspection reports, manage non-conforming products, and support investigations into quality issues. The role also involves developing measurement solutions for complex or one-off components using CMMs and articulated arm measurement systems. Familiarity with quality tools such as Control Plans, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and First Article Inspection (FAI) is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, edit, and operate CMMs to inspect manufactured components.
- Perform routine dimensional inspections using verniers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements accurately.
- Produce inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.
- Identify, document, and manage non-conforming products in accordance with quality procedures.
- Support root cause investigations and develop effective measurement solutions for new or complex parts.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, inspection procedures, and customer specifications.
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience programming, editing, and operating CMMs.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and the interpretation of engineering drawings.
- Experience using manual inspection equipment, including verniers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
- Ability to follow quality procedures and inspection standards accurately.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience using PC-DMIS and/or PolyWorks Inspector.
- Knowledge of Control Plans, SPC, and First Article Inspection (AS9102).
- Experience using SAP or other ERP systems.
- Experience with articulated arm measurement systems.
- Previous experience within aerospace, defence, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Continuous improvement mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
