Mechanical Design Engineer in Farnborough, Hampshire

Working within a multidisciplinary team the post holder will;
- Take responsibility for the collation and resolution of arising build line queries
- The post holder will attend regular shop floor reviews and provide technical status reports on existing issues and take receipt of emergent issues
- Provide 'at elbow build line support to production team - resolving emergent issues
- Provide detailed design solutions for air frame projects either individually delegated or as part of the wider air frame engineering team
- In conjunction with wider team help develop and define build processes and methods required to build/install/function new design solutions
- Oversee and guide the build of development aircraft and any supporting equipment required to achieve the design aims in accordance with applicable regulations
- Provide technical inputs and advice to the wider product development team on design matters and arising issues
- Own/support any associated testing to clear designs; resulting from issues or new modifications
- Own/support and/or run engineering reviews associated with delegated work packages
- Work closely with production and procurement teams to ensure consideration has been given for Design for Manufacture (DfM) aspects early in the design life cycle
- Capture agreed changes in-line with change control processes to protect the content and currency of the issued design and build record
- Continuous improvement - Proactively identify improvements that could positively affect either quality, product, product performance or the production cycle
- Provide a pro-active input to and ensure the continuity of your own ongoing professional development
Skills/Experience Required
Essential - Mechanical Design Engineer
- Extensive experience in an aviation design role
- Demonstrable experience of supporting and working within production/manufacturing environment
- Pro-active problem solver and interrater of data to resolve emergent build issues
- ONC or similar relevant qualification/experience in mechanical design/production engineering
- Proficient user of CAD design/modelling package(s) - ideally using Solid Works.
- Demonstrable experience of taking a system technical requirement and evolving into a complete design solution
- In depth knowledge of drawing standards specifically BS8888, and tolerances
Desirable - Mechanical Design Engineer
- Experience in the use of a PLM tool set
- Use of a PDM tool
- Experience of overseeing/managing design changes within the design record
- Ideally experience of design and manufacturing using composite components=

- Ability to prioritise tasks, picking out critical issues
- Ability to plan/manage and delegate work where appropriate
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team, as the work dictates
- Reliable with respect to quality and timeliness of deliverable
- Good attention to detail
- Good communicator - able to articulate design solutions/changes to end users
- Safety conscious, safe approach to own work and that of others
- Quality conscious, working methods demonstrate good change management /configuration control
- Whilst work is programmed, our customer's schedules are key to our success and the team's ability flex and adapt with the changing demands requires a flexible attitude to working practices
- Some travel to support flight trials overseas may be required, although this is unlikely in the short term and would be discussed at the time of the interview
