Development Team Lead
Location: London Or Portsmouth/ Hybrid

Job purpose:
Lead a team of multi-discipline engineers designing, building and improving full-stack applications on the web. You are guiding your team by example utilising best practices and coding standards. You will be reporting to and working with the Engineering Manager, hiring, nurturing and developing a high performing team delivering at pace. When you are not developing you will be communicating team progress, fostering collaboration inside and outside the team, documenting technical choices and communicating them to your peers and technical leadership.

Key responsibilities and main duties

TECHNICAL RESPONSBILITIES
* Design solutions to problems using architecture & sequence diagrams
* Ensure high standards of code quality and implementation of robust testing strategies
* Responsible for the level of technical debt and test strategy of your product
* Produce technical design documentation for your products
* Schemas
* API docs
* Readmes

PEOPLE MANANGEMENT
* Work with the Engineering Managers to feed into talent development and performance reviews
* Mentor the developers to support them with delivering against personal, team goals & initiatives
* Assist with the recruitment of new engineers
* Onboard new members of your team

TEAM MANAGENT
* Oversee the team and help remove impediments
* Provide and support team members in the facilitation of agile ceremonies
* Present the team's progress to stakeholders and the wider engineering department

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
* Work closely with the product managers to define solutions
* Align best practices and technical standards with technical leaders across the engineering department
* Collaborate with engineers across disciplines (Testing, UX, Platform etc...) and seek their support to shape your team and product area for success

DECISIONS
* Influence technical decisions, designs to meet the business requirements
* Influence process improvements
* Recruitment and talent development in your team

OTHER
* Demonstrate explicit care to protect all personal and confidential data and information you may encounter about employees, customers, members, suppliers (this list may not be exhaustive) whether that data is held on computer or found in manual, paper systems.
Characteristics to make the role successful
Required skills and experience
* Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills
* Great problem-solving skills
* Experience working with Typescript on both front and back end
* Experience working with Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP)
* Strong knowledge of the React lifecycle and experience with React apps in production
* CI/CD such as Cloud Build, CircleCi, or GitHub Actions
* Working in (and leading) cross-functional, lean agile teams
* TDD and behavioural testing patterns
* Modern JavaScript (async/await, ES6 modules, generators etc)
* Working to WCAG 2.1 AA and AAA accessibility standards
* Strong code-review skills
* Implementing analytics events
