Database Administrator in Exeter, Devon

PermanentOur client are seeking a Database Administrator to join their hybrid team based in Exeter.
There is an opportunity to learn and gain new skills in this role, please don't be put off if you don't have all of the listed skills and experience.
The successful candidate will make sure critical applications, interfaces and databases are secure, resilient and highly available.
This includes the administration of databases including SQL Server and Oracle, the receiving and prioritising of incidents, releases and change requests and escalating when considered appropriate and necessary to maintain service level expectations.
Responsibilities
- Administer critical systems, such as document management, finance, sales and billing systems.
- Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones. Understand the needs and requirements of the applications using the databases and provide support for these applications.
- In-line with industry best practice, ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data at rest and during transit.
- Recommend and undertake modifications to application and database environments to improve security, efficiency, reliability, and performance. Automate common tasks. Work to established data and architectural principles.
- Provide timely second-line response to escalations from the Service Delivery team, performing onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex problems.
- Coordinate and collaborate with network, application, security and database administration functions in response to incidents, problems and change.
- Highlight where service levels have not been met and work with colleagues to identify and present problem resolutions.
- Perform audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes.
- Engage project delivery teams to ensure new or upgraded IT services can be transitioned into operational use and adequately supported by confirming compliance with departmental service transition standards.
- Develop and maintain training materials and documentation.
- Attend training seminars, conferences and trade shows to broaden knowledge of relevant subject matters and technologies.
Desirable skills / Experience
- IT and business experience, delivering diverse corporate IT services in a medium/large organisation.
- Familiarity of ITIL and PRINCE2 project governance or equivalent.
- Experience with relevant operating systems, software and infrastructure, including Microsoft Server, Azure and AIX.
- Experience administering corporate, application environments, instances, platforms and configurations.
- Experienced in Database Administration or SQL Server and Oracle.
- Experience in the configuration and administration of Microsoft online applications including Dynamics CRM and SharePoint Online.
