We are currently recruiting for a number of Assistant Commercial Manager opportunities across London, supporting a range of major infrastructure, facilities management, engineering and asset-based contracts.

These roles offer the opportunity to work within established commercial teams, supporting the management and financial control of live contracts across a variety of environments. Rail experience is ideal but not essential, and candidates from other sectors with strong commercial and contract management backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

The Role

As an Assistant Commercial Manager, you will provide commercial and contract support across a portfolio of live contracts, working closely with Commercial Managers and key internal and external stakeholders.

The roles are primarily focused on post-contract commercial management, although candidates with broader end-to-end commercial experience covering both pre- and post-contract activity are welcome.

Depending on the assignment, you may work across areas including facilities management, engineering, maintenance, infrastructure, mechanical & electrical, building services and other contracted services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the commercial management of multiple live contracts
  • Managing and reviewing payment applications and supplier submissions
  • Supporting the issuing of payment notices and maintaining commercial records
  • Raising and managing purchase orders
  • Monitoring budgets, expenditure and financial forecasts
  • Tracking actual spend against agreed budgets
  • Analysing financial and operational reports
  • Maintaining accurate contract and commercial information across internal systems
  • Preparing commercial reports, updates and meeting minutes
  • Responding to commercial and contractual queries
  • Reviewing contract documentation and interpreting scope and contractual requirements
  • Working closely with suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders
  • Supporting Commercial Managers with the day-to-day administration and management of contracts

About You

We are looking for commercially minded candidates who are comfortable working with live contracts and financial information.

Essential Experience

  • Strong post-contract commercial or contract management experience
  • Experience working with live contracts and contractual documentation
  • Strong Excel skills, including financial tracking, reporting and analysis
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical ability
  • Confidence dealing with commercial queries and interpreting contract requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within infrastructure, engineering, construction, FM, maintenance or a similar contracted environment
  • Experience working across multiple contracts or suppliers
  • SAP, Ariba or similar commercial/procurement systems
  • Experience within a large organisation or complex stakeholder environment
  • Rail, transport or public-sector experience

Pre & Post-Contract Experience

Candidates with end-to-end commercial experience across both pre- and post-contract stages are encouraged to apply.

However, for these positions, hands-on post-contract experience is essential. Candidates whose experience is limited to procurement, tendering or pre-contract activity are unlikely to be suitable.

Qualifications

Commercial, contract management or professional qualifications such as RICS, CIPS or equivalent would be advantageous but are not mandatory. Practical commercial experience will be valued highly.
