Contract: 6 months
Salary:£21.27 per hour (Umbrella rate)
NEBOSH certification required
About the Role
We're looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Health and Safety Officer to help ensure a safe working environment across BCP Council.
In this role, you'll support the Council in meeting its health and safety responsibilities by providing practical advice, carrying out inspections and risk assessments, investigating incidents, and helping services develop safe working practices. You'll work with colleagues across a wide range of Council services to promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide practical health and safety advice and guidance to Council services and maintained schools.
- Respond to health and safety enquiries and investigate concerns and complaints.
- Carry out workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Deliver health and safety training and awareness sessions.
- Support managers in implementing safe systems of work and improving compliance.
- Help review and update health and safety policies and procedures to reflect current legislation and best practice.
- Maintain accurate records and reports to support compliance and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
You'll have:
- A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Health and Safety or a related subject.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma required
- Good knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience carrying out inspections, risk assessments, and audits.
- Experience supporting health and safety management within an organisation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain health and safety requirements clearly.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach with good attention to detail.
