Test Support Engineer in Northampton, Northamptonshire

PermanentAs a Test Support Engineer at Cosworth, you will be working within the Test House to provide hands-on engineering support. The role will cover a broad range of engineering disciplines to continuously provide support, development and production of internal combustion engines, rigs and associated components.
The Role:
To deliver engineering objectives set by the Senior Engineer, either internal to the department or from the Project Groups.
Previous experience working in an automotive engine or component test environment in an engineering support role is essential.
The role will include the initial set up of test installations i.e. measurement channels, data logging, automated routines, alarms, PID control etc.
Selection, installation, calibration, maintenance and operation of pressure, temperature, torque, flow, humidity transducers.
Root cause fault finding and resolving of electrical, software and mechanical testbed issues.
Be a part of planning and delivering facility upgrades.
To provide drawings, procedures, delivery plans and work to improving departmental resources.
Assessing and securing sub-contractor services where appropriate and managing their delivery.
Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
Support the Company's compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will have a good selection of the following skills:
Good knowledge of how to configure and maintain test bed control systems. (CP Cadet or AVL Puma preferred)
Understanding of the principles of instrumentation systems, measurement & logging equipment.
Good understanding of internal combustion engines and engine test methodology.
Understanding of sensors (temperature, pressure, strain etc) and their application and calibration.
Knowledge of the workings of control systems (control loops, PID controllers etc).
Writing of documentation - specifications and documentation of work carried out.
Programming experience desirable (C or Visual Basic)
Setting up and debugging communications links - CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, Data Highway Plus, RS-422, RS-232 desirable.
Have a passion for engineering and problem-solving and be able to organise own workload in an effective manner.
