The Energy Division at ARM is currently recruiting for an experienced Training Developer to join our client on a contract basis, who are a Leading Engineering business for the Defence sector.

Overview of the role:

This is a first-level managerial job; the role carries full managerial accountability for the management of the training service and achievement of KPIs & SLAs associated with the service. At this level, the job leads and manages several operational teams consisting of technicians, administrators or operatives, where each team is led by a Band 5 Team leader.

The focus of this role is on the delivery of operational activity to meet monthly and quarterly KPIs and SLAs.

The role will have some experience of bidding and tendering for contracts, and has experience of converting contract requirements into tangible learning programmes. At this level, typically requires proven experience in training design and delivery.

The role carries full people management responsibility including leading, developing and managing an effective, engaged team to deliver business results. This role is responsible for ensuring the team members are able to meet their full potential and maximise unit performance.

The role typically reports to a position at 'Manager' level.

Your purpose:

Manage the training team to deliver a training service to a business to meet customer requirements as defined and laid out in service agreements. Implement training and education programmes & assignments.

At this level typically involves leading, managing and coordinating a team of training and education providers charged with delivery of material to meet defined standards and outputs.

Main responsibilities:

Business Management: Lead, coordinate and control a team of professional Training and Education service providers such that staff are developed, utilised and deployed effectively, employee performance and motivation is maximised to meet organisational standards and requirements. Deliver projects using recognised Project Delivery techniques

Performance Management: Develop, and implement plans, approaches, schedules and improvement programmes to deliver ongoing monthly, quarterly and annual KPIs, SLAs and objectives for a department, unit or enabling service

Resource Management: Monitor and manage the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing unit outputs, products and services to meet quality and schedule objectives at minimum cost.

Personnel Performance: Provide Line Management of the team leaders. Ensure that self and all staff members are fully up to date with mandated training and Personal Development Reviews. Appropriately recognise and reward strong staff performance.

Relationship Management: Analyse course feedback and course attainment, identifies opportunities for improvements to delegate experiences and skill/learning attainment for each course or module or programme and work with others Education & Training professional, including line management, to generate and deliver performance improvements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Research the market place, gather, analyse and quantify future sales potential to identify areas where business development effort can be best deployed.

Business Growth Support: Support Business Growth activity through identifying new business opportunities and providing constructive advice and usable bid support material. Provide SME input into wider bid support activities within available resource and capacity across the Business Unit as required.

What do you need to succeed in this role?

  • Level 5 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant field. (Preferred)
  • Level 5 Certificate in Education and Training (for delivery specialists) or equivalent for other service providers.(Preferred)
  • Project Management qualified. (Preferred)
  • IOSH Managing Safely/NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent). (Preferred)
  • Have a detailed knowledge of a Systems Approach to Training and its application in the training environment.
