We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Structural Analyst Engineer, to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

Job Purpose:

The Senior ASME and R6 Structural Analyst Engineer, will sit within the Reactor Island Component Structural Analysis team and work closely with the component design teams to deliver stress analysis capability to support design concept development and structural justifications. This role, and its requirements, are flexible dependent on the candidate's capability, experience, and potential as such candidates with a wide range of direct experience are appropriate for this role.

What is unique about this role?

  • You will have exposure to rapid design development of novel nuclear components.
  • You will have Exposure to novel DTA assessment methods and support/guidance to develop these skills.
  • You will be part of team to deliver novel RR SMR power plant.

Key Results & What can be achieved in the role:

Manage and deliver internal and external work packages in line with requirements to support the overall programme. This is likely to include supervision of others and may include leadership of small sub-team.

Production of assessment methodology documents, supervision and development of junior staff ensuring delivery of work.

6 months: You will integrate into the business. Undertake first initial structural assessment and reporting.

1 year: If experienced, you will act as point of contact and have a defined scope of responsibility. Support external meetings with the ONR and will review external supply chain. You will be developing important methodology documentation.

3 years: If experienced, you will lead a small team as the business grows. You will be defining strategy in specific areas.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. An understanding of experience and skills in some or all the technical assessment areas below:
  • ASME III Mandatory Appendix XIII structural assessments
  • Fatigue assessments
  • PWR degradation mechanisms (Stress Corrosion Cracking, Environmental fatigue, Irradiation Embrittlement)
  • Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus or ANSYS preferable)
  • Production of assessment methodology documentation
  • SPRINT style assessments
  1. An understanding of the impact of fracture results in the context of a higher reliability safety case and the impact of material, manufacturing and non-destructive examination in the substantiation of this case, as well as the ability to carry out R6-based fracture analysis, understand and interpret the results in the context of a higher reliability safety case.
  1. Experience in BS7910 or other fracture/Defect Tolerance Assessment codes would be applicable. The ability to understand the impact of manufacturing processes, non-destructive examination methods, material assurance and structural analysis on the substantiation of mechanical components.
  1. Experience of undertaking structural assessments to industry and internationally recognised codes (preferable nuclear)
  1. Programme Management, including: Definition of a project/programme of work, delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans / budget and management of supply chain.
  1. Experience of other assessment types or methods such as dynamic stress or pipe stress analysis would be desirable, however, not essential.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Either Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with experience including responsibility for technically leading projects.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in structural assessments to ASME and R6 (or similar codes).
  • Planning and organising skills to manage programme activities and deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with any audience, quickly establishing credibility and buy-in.
  • Ability to write technical strategy documents.

Pay and Benefits:

We anticipate paying a salary of between £45,000 - £65,000 plus benefits

  • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days

  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
