Proving Test EV Technician

Peterborough 12-Month Contract

Join the team as a Proving Test EV Technician and play a pivotal role in its success. As part of the Global Engine Development (GED) team, you will be responsible for various powertrain installation projects into off-highway machines, focusing on both mechanical and electrical aspects of powertrain integration, shake-down, and testing.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Adhere to the organisation's health and safety policies and safe working practices in accordance with the Safety Management System.
  • Perform safe and defect-free assembly of parts and components using various hand and power tools and lifting equipment.
  • Install prototype, pilot, and production powertrains into off-highway machines following the Engineer's instructions.
  • Operate a range of off-highway vehicles, including Hydraulic Excavators, Backhoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Track Type Tractors, etc.
  • Instrument powertrain installations with various sensors such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, and speed pickups.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on both powertrains and machines.
  • Work from engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic) and manufacture parts accordingly using in-house facilities.
  • Produce electrical looms to interface powertrain and machine.
  • Travel to off-site test and development facilities, including CAT-owned and third-party locations (some overseas).
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work area in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM) principles.
  • Undertake required training and further learning as necessary.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic systems with knowledge of powertrains and machines.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with various levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and its application.
  • Competence in using hand/power tools, lifting, and welding equipment.
  • Working towards or completed relevant higher education (NVQ Level 3).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAT-designed software.

Desirable Experience/Skills:

  • Good machine/engine hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diagnostic/problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in maintenance and repair of off-highway vehicles and/or large goods vehicles.
  • Understanding of core electrical principles.
