We have an exciting opportunity for a Production Team Leader to
join our Automotive Development & Manufacturing Operation based in Dunsfold, Surrey.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for vehicle production on daily basis to produce high quality vehicles across all
models undertaken by Gordon Murray Automotive. Work together with GMD / GMA members
to capture any concerns during the build and work with the quality and engineering team to
ensure corrective actions are documented. Develop the manufacturing processes on the
prototypes. Become a subject expert in the assembly of the vehicle and manage a small team of
highly skilled technicians. Continuously improve & develop manufacturing processes to
effectively utilize equipment and materials to maximize production. Become a key member of
the team to ramp-up of assembly production at our low-volume, automotive manufacturing
operation and help start up new manufacturing plant with Teamwork, Respect, and Innovation.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Establish strong team member relations, at all levels and provide support for people development, coaching and mentoring with a focus on teamwork and inclusion.
- Work closely with GMD team at all levels.
- Support Production Manager to create production strategies relative to KPI achievement and support translating those strategies into concrete action plans.
- Lead and coach production team to achieve hourly/daily objectives.
- Ensure alignment of activities to support the production strategies.
- Share and cascade information and communicate goals.
- Support Cycle Time planning and line re balancing, trials and training activities.
- Support new model activities.
- Create team development plans and coach the team members.
- Support introduction of new assembly technologies when applicable.

- Develop and standardise work instruction for each production process, then maintain a strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures, thereby clearly identifying irregularities that may cause damage or inefficiency and prescribing corrective measures to improve these processes
- Identify unsafe operations / practices and establish safety procedures for employees.
- Support shop safety initiatives and manage timely implementation of
- countermeasures to resolve problems.
- Ensure daily process quality and coordinate activities with the team to improve assembly quality.
- Promote problem solving activities within the team.
- Identify waste in assembly processes and implement activities to improve efficiency.
- Be available to work OT, shutdowns and travel as needed.
- Work together with GMA/GMD Engineering members to continuously improve / develop manufacturing process
- Some computer literacy required - Basics in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Communication skills - to be able to liaise and put point across to others
Experience and Qualifications:
- It is anticipated that you will have 5 years relevant automotive experience at an appropriate consultancy or OEM.
- Experience of full product life-cycle activities and ability to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery targets for production
- Professional or Supervisory Experience in automotive manufacturing with a team
- Understanding of the different assembly processes and equipment
- Ability to create plans and schedule own activities
- Proficiency in cross functional, cross company, and cross-sectional processes.
- Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients
- Must be a team player who can work closely with GMD manufacturing engineering team
- Strong ability to lead problem solving activities within an automotive assembly environment
