Product Safety Manager

As Manager/Leader of this team you will manage staff supporting the assurance cases of all in-service variants, this includes both safety and environmental assurance. Your team will also be responsible for the assurance of the test and support equipment used during the development.

As Product Safety Manager you will be responsible for:

· Maintaining the Safety Management System that supports our In-Service Underwater Weapons

· Providing credible advice and guidance to the project team on product safety, ensuring that safety considerations are an integral part of the design process, taking cognisance of the whole product lifecycle

· Providing support to the delivery of the Safety and Environmental Requirements in compliance with applicable UK and International Legislation

· Acting as Control Account Manager, managing the Product Safety and Environmental aspects.

· Managing a team of Engineers supporting the development of efficient yet effective safety and environmental arguments, often from first principles, to support the ongoing assurance.

· Resolving a range of product safety engineering issues and problems, compiling technical reports and accompanying presentations

· Supporting the development of the Safety Management System, resources and budgets for the next in-service Torpedo Support contract.

· Lead the liaison with our MOD customer on matters of Product Safety

Our approach to product safety employs the latest thinking from across industry and academia and will lead to opportunities to support new cutting-edge work, including active work moving into the Model Based Safety Assurance arena. We are also influencing the evolution of applicable safety standards across the defence domain.

Your skills and experiences:

· Hold acknowledged, demonstrable competency in the specialised field of Product Safety Engineering, including experience of the application of a range of common Safety management tools, techniques and practices

· Have a demonstrable track record of successfully delivering Product Safety tasks within a complex systems environment and in scope of a Product Safety Management System (PSMS). Some knowledge of creating, improving or tailoring a PSMS would be an advantage

· Be at least degree qualified (preferably MSc/MEng) in a relevant Engineering/Systems/Safety discipline, with significant knowledge of applicable legislation and standards

· Hold CEng whilst being a recognised member of a relevant industry wide body, e.g. SaRS, IET, IMechE etc. or hold sufficient competence to achieve professional registration in the short term

· Hold significant knowledge of Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives Assurance or be capable of obtaining this in the short term
