We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Product Realisation Engineer / Lead to be involved in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.

Job Purpose:

Define and manage an appropriate process to govern the release of designs to production. Provide consistency in the implementation of that process across component areas, including process improvement of current practices.

Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities in a proactive manner.

Assist in defining requirements for third party review and surveillance, and coordinate inputs and interfaces with the third party.

Define appropriate manufacturing and quality control requirements for internal and external manufacture.

Represent the component team and SMR programme on the global stage. Work closely with national and international suppliers, assisting in communicating requirements and relevant training.

Have productive engagement with the regulator to facilitate long lead item orders.

Help to inform product development programmes by acting as a single point of contact for a variety of enabling activities to ensure planning accuracy and quality.

Generate creative solutions to challenges, based on a balance and trade off the project drivers, technical and non-technical requirements.

The cross-component team, in which this role will sit, is a pivotal part of the product development, ensuring consistency, standardisation and efficiency across all product development programmes.

The Key Selection Criteria:

  • Hold a high level understanding of the design of mechanical components such as pressure vessels, tanks, pumps or valves. Understand opportunities for standardisation at all levels of component specification and design.
  • Experience working in or with production, preferably of long lead items with hold and release points. An understanding of material forging and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience in constructing logical structured arguments such as compiling a safety case, and presenting these arguments at reviews or regulatory engagements.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven capability to convey complex technical issues to a range of audiences, including senior management.

  • Ability to handle projects that have a high level of ambiguity, with ability to control and provide direction to resolve this ambiguity.

Qualifications & Training:

  • BEng or MEng in process, mechanical or chemical engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
  • Experience within the nuclear industry, and specifically reactor components, is preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards it.

  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
