My client, a local authority are looking for a Network Engineer to join their fast-paced team on an initial 2 month contract.
The ideal candidate will have experience in, and have an ability to carry out priority activities in the following areas:
- Cisco LAN (Local Area Network) Switch Routing
- Next Generation Firewall
- Remote Access Service
- Data Centre LAN (ACI)
- Resilient Cloud and Internet access
- Multi-onramp and Network services centres
- Software Defined Orchestration
- Cloud based SASE
- Security & Compliance
- Workplace Recovery
- LAN Refresh
The chosen candidate will be a highly technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will lead the development of the strategic lifecycle roadmap(s) for their technical specialism(s). Ensuring compliance within support versions of the software/hardware and exploiting the technology to deliver efficiency gains for example by automation. Technical knowledge sharing on the future strategic direction of the technologies will be crucial to peer groups and team members.
Consulted to maintain, deliver, support, develop, source and train for a range of ICT services. They will develop and apply emerging and advancing methodologies (such as software defined) which ensure efficient application in a low maintenance environment, to all staff, Schools and other external clients and cover a wide range of functionality.
Undertake complex projects and support to all staff, Schools, other external clients and the management of contracts within their specialism(s) in accordance with the Authority ICT investment strategy and delivery programme, in order to obtain Best Value and fit for purpose from a business perspective.
Delegated responsibility from the Team Manager in supervising and coaching members of the team and will deputise when the Delivery Team Lead is unavailable, responsibilities extends to include contract, staffing, health and safety, and project budget management for these services and for the organisation in accordance with the Authority ICT investment strategy and delivery programme, to obtain Best Value and are fit for purpose from a business perspective.
On the job responsibilities
Delegated responsibility to lead, manage, coach and motivate a diverse team of highly skilled, specialised technical and professional staff located across Cheshire and partner locations who will provide a managed ICT environment, for Officers, Schools and external clients in a planned and structured way either onsite or through the use of remote tools to ensure appropriate skills and expertise are available to enable clients to make effective use of computing facilities.
Responsible for development of strategic lifecycle road maps to influence the long term strategic direction of the business through research and development of new technologies.
Ensuring development and adoption of automated technology solutions, to maximise efficiency, savings, improve public services and optimise customer experience.
Responsible technical lead for Implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of complex strategies, QMS documented procedures and technical instructions for all aspects of ICT Service management across staff, Schools and other external clients to ensure compliance with corporate and national policy and professional standards, eg. GDPR, PSN, ITIL, PRINCE
Delegated responsibility to manage, recruit, counsel, develop, appraise, coach and motivate staff (inclusive of small project teams) located across Cheshire to ensure that training plans and Key Tasks are set and completed to corporate standards to ensure that best practice and specialist skills are shared, and high levels of customer satisfaction produce effective relationships.
Responsible for technical planning, scheduling and management of assigned professional support tasks and project work to ensure the work is completed within SLA's/KPI's. This may also include supervising junior members of the team to ensure their work also meets the appropriate SLA's/KPI's.
Responsible on each engaged project/chargeable workstream for specification and calculation of capital/asset and human resource financial demand and skill types. Consult with Project Managers to influence and secure appropriate budgets and requirements for specialist technical resource to project work.
Responsible for ensuring own and supporting member of the team's work is compliant within ICT project delivery processes such as Service Gates, CAB, TDA and responsible for delivery of project work on time and within the project budget.
Manage own work within defined budget allocations for Core/BAU/project work. This may also include supervising members of the team to ensure their work also meets defined budget allocations.
Technical lead and escalation for ad hoc ICT issues on an extremely complex and diverse estate. These can vary from single user PC to catastrophic failure affecting all users, all services to entire organisation and the general public.
The job holder has responsibility to evaluate and recognise the severity of the issue and influence and initiate escalation to a major incident whereby they will be expected to lead diagnosis in their technical areas as part of a wider ICT technical team working to a Major Incident Plan
Plan, manage, define and present complex and highly technical training and awareness sessions including to none technical staff and clients in plain simple English on the effective use of ICT and long term strategic direction.
Assist with the management of contracts upto £5million and their ongoing revenue budgets. Procurement and re-procurement of best value contracts within the available financial budgets.
Specifying supplier SLA's/KPI's and ensuring compliance with standards and ongoing service review of contracts to ensure SLA's/KPI's are met.
Responsibility for ensuring the ongoing continuity of many business-critical systems and processes in a highly complex hybrid environment. Define, plan and manage the teams DR and business continuity arrangements for area of expertise.
