Mid Backend Engineer

6-Month Contract - Inside IR35 - up to £580 per day

London based - hybrid working - 2-3 days a week onsite

Current and active UK Security Clearance (SC) is essential for this position.

We are seeking a Mid Backend Engineer to join a delivery pod, contributing to the design, development and maintenance of scalable, resilient backend systems.

The role will specialise in event-driven architecture and CQRS-based systems, working within a collaborative engineering environment to deliver robust, distributed solutions. The successful candidate will have strong backend development experience, a solid understanding of architectural patterns and practical experience building event-driven applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and applications within a pod-based delivery model.
• Implement and support systems built around Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS).
• Develop and maintain event-driven architectures and distributed systems.
• Contribute to the implementation of Event Sourcing patterns.
• Design, develop and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Build and maintain integrations using Azure Service Bus and messaging technologies.
• Ensure backend solutions are scalable, resilient, secure and maintainable.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and other stakeholders to deliver technical solutions.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues across distributed backend services.

Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in the following areas:

• CQRS: Strong practical experience implementing and working with Command Query Responsibility Segregation.
• Event Sourcing: Understanding and practical experience of event-sourced architectures.
• Backend Development: Commercial experience with at least one of the following: .NET, Java or Python.
• Azure Service Bus: Experience implementing messaging and asynchronous communication between services.
• API Development: Experience designing, developing and integrating backend APIs.
• Distributed Systems: Understanding of distributed architectures, messaging patterns and service-to-service communication.
• Experience working within an Agile engineering team or pod-based delivery environment.
