Junior Hardware Engineer

The primary goal of this position is to assist the Hardware Team in the creation of gas and electric Smart Meters across the whole product life cycle, from design to manufacture.
Soldering, prototyping, assembly/disassembly, troubleshooting, programming, and testing of gas and electric metres are all part of this hands-on position.
Functional, parametric, digital, analogue, basic RF, and environmental tests are all included in testing.
This main duties will be:
- Prototyping, testing, debugging and fault finding of Smart Meters: Gas Meters and Electric Meters (Single
- and Three Phase).
- This is a hands on role and involves, soldering, prototyping, assembly/disassembly, debugging, programming and testing.
- Schematic and BoM reading and analysis
- Programming of Electronic Boards using Eclipse Based IDE's, etc.
- Mechanical Assembly
- esting and Debugging:
- AC/DC PSUs
- Low Voltage DC/DC PSUs
- Analogue Electronics
- Digital Electronics
- RF Electronics
- Fault finding and repair of Development Hardware, ALT and HALT failures, Production failures andCustomer returns, down to component level
- Prototyping Test Jigs
- Documentation of Tests Results and Investigations in: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA
- Organizing the calibration of equipment for the Electronics Laboratory
- Soldering to a high skill level: down to 0402 components, ICs, connectors, cables, CANs
- Work is performed using Equipment: Mains Isolation Transformers, DC PSUs, Multi-Meters, Electronic Loads, Oscilloscopes, Frequency Counters, Spectrum Analyzers, Mobile Test Equipment(MTE), Environment Chambers
Essential
The candidate should have a relevant Degree/HND/HNC/BTEC in Electronics, or similar, and experience of
developing industrial/consumer electronic products. Where a skills experience gap exists we will support with
training internally or externally.
The candidate shall demonstrate skills and experience some or all of the following:
- Analog and Digital Electronic testing down to component level
- Fault finding down to block and component level
- Use of Electronic Test Equipment
- Knowledge of using Product Data Packs: Schematics, BOM, Placement, Mechanical
- Organization of Test Samples
- Use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA
- Excellent Soldering Skills
