Design Engineer - Rail Infrastructure

About Us:

My client is a leading provider of innovative engineering solutions for the rail industry. They are dedicated to designing and delivering infrastructure projects that meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability and are looking for a motivated Design Engineer to join the team, focusing on the development of rail infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design engineering solutions for rail infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of options and make sound, evidence-based decisions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
  • Apply knowledge of rail engineering and work across various engineering disciplines.
  • Manage projects across the full lifecycle, from design to implementation, with an appreciation for lifecycle costs.
  • Conduct risk assessments, develop CDM (Construction Design Management) plans, and participate in external audits.
  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations and best practices in all engineering activities.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
  • Skills: Demonstrable aptitude for option development and strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience: Working knowledge of rail engineering with relevant successful experience in the principal discipline and an understanding of related disciplines.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team.
  • Industry Knowledge: Appreciation of all life cycle stages of rail infrastructure projects.
  • Competencies: Experience with CDM regulations, risk assessment, and external audit.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • Membership of a relevant engineering professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE).
  • Experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of rail infrastructure.
  • Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
