  • Mostly remote/1 day on site every 6 weeks - Devonport

The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Building Support Engineer to join a world-leading, nuclear defence client based out of Devonport dockyard.

Job Overview:

This is a major engineering initiative focused on upgrading a Defence facility in Plymouth, UK, designed to support the Vanguard and future Dreadnought Class submarines. The project has a 10-year timeline and is valued at £1 billion, representing a significant infrastructure development for the UK's defence sector.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage one or more technical design packages as assigned by the Principal Engineer (Buildings), agreeing project related objectives, managing designer performance, and making appropriate technical management responses. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice as per discipline.
  • Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule and budget.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer (Buildings) to ensure effective Quality Management Arrangements via compliance with Business Management System and Technical Manual.
  • Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
  • Ensure that contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.
  • Ensure design information is articulated to the Principal Engineer (Buildings) to enable appropriate justification of the engineering / activities within the Facility Safety Case.

What do you need to succeed?

  • A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartership
  • Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent nuclear and/or marine system knowledge preferred.
  • Alternatively, experience in other safety critical plant/process design would be considered.
