The Position:
We are currently seeking a contract Applications Engineer to join the V&V / Applications team within the Shrewsbury Engineering Department. The role will be focused on supporting new / current customers to integrate Caterpillar products / solutions into their products.

The successful candidate will serve as an experienced contributor on assignments that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across global manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
As contract Applications Engineer within the team, you will be expected to have a mix of design and development experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to plan and execute challenging tasks/projects with minimal supervision.
* Developing strong working relationships with customer technical counterparts to serve as their primary liaison to deliver product technical information, manage product specifications, communicate product change information, conduct installation issue resolution, and facilitate customer requests.
* Translates customer needs and "voice of the customer" into functional product requirements.
* Applies in-depth product, application, and market knowledge to support customers with product selection and equipment configuration needs.
* Working in a multi-disciplined team to ensure products are applied and installed correctly to meet customer functional requirements.
* Assures installation quality by validating prototype machine performance to ensure installations are meeting Caterpillar product requirements.
* Maintain communication to peers, section manager and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
* Support field and production issues, determine root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions. Work with suppliers and keep stakeholders informed of progress and decisions.

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

* Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued, progressive experience in relevant design roles
* Good understanding of CI engine performance / product installation limits.
* Good practical understanding of application audit test processes.
* Good understanding of manufacturing assembly principles.
* Self-motivation and an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
* Excellent communication & teamwork skills
* To collaborate & manage interactions on behalf of Caterpillar with external suppliers to develop customer focused solutions.

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
* Knowledge of Core Engine systems such as Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems
* Experience of running and participating in FMEA
* Modelling experience in CREO4 or similar
* Experience in component and engine validation & verification
* Knowledge and usage of Team Centre - data management software
* Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams
