Principal EMC Engineer

Location: Edinburgh
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: Up to £74 per hour (Inside IR35)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal EMC Engineer to support the development and qualification of next-generation defence systems within the Radar and Advanced Targeting division.

Please note: Due to the sensitive nature of the work, candidates must already hold a high level of UK Security Clearance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct EMC engineering and testing in line with military and aerospace standards, including MIL-STD-461, DO-160, DEF STAN 59-411 and EFA EMC specifications.
• Support radiated and conducted emissions and susceptibility testing, including specialist defence-specific testing.
• Support EMC activities from early-stage pre-compliance through to formal product qualification.
• Prepare, execute and report on EMC tests within a UKAS-accredited facility.
• Analyse and troubleshoot equipment under test, identifying and resolving EMC issues.
• Contribute to improvements in test methods, processes and automation.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience conducting EMC testing to military or aerospace standards.
• Ability to produce EMC test plans, procedures and reports.
• Experience working within an accredited test environment.
• Knowledge of EMC test equipment, setups and software such as EMC32 and ELEKTRA.
• Experience with product certification and formal design reviews.
• Strong understanding of EMC principles, electromagnetic theory and their application to complex electronic systems.
