ContractAsset Maintenance Engineer - Doncaster
Contract - £38 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: Doncaster
If you're an experienced electrical or street lighting engineer who wants a role with real ownership, genuine technical challenge and the chance to directly influence a major public‑safety asset base, this contract will interest you.
You'll lead the maintenance and performance of Doncaster's highway electrical network - one of the city's most visible, safety‑critical asset sets. This is not just a maintenance job; it's a strategic engineering role where your decisions directly shape reliability, safety standards and long-term infrastructure performance.
What You'll Be Doing
* Leading all activity around highway electrical assets, ensuring they are safe, compliant and performing as they should.
* Planning and delivering maintenance strategies, cyclic testing programmes and reactive works.
* Owning statutory compliance across electrical testing, condition surveys and certification.
* Managing the unmetered energy extract and keeping inventory records accurate and up to date.
* Controlling budgets across electrical testing, high masts, tunnels and specialist assets.
* Handling accident damage and insurance claims - and challenging costs where needed.
* Driving energy‑efficient, cost‑effective lighting solutions and supporting procurement.
* Maintaining and improving the quality of the asset database and all statutory documentation.
* Acting as a key technical advisor to internal teams, contractors and stakeholders.
* Providing senior cover when required for the CMS Manager and Highways Electrical Duty Holder.
What You'll Bring
* Level 7 engineering qualification (or equivalent).
* NVQ Level 4+ in Street Lighting/Electrical Engineering.
* EngTech registration or equivalent.
* SMSTS and strong knowledge of Health & Safety and CDM.
* BS7671 Wiring Regulations qualification.
* Knowledge of ILP TR22 and GN22.
* Experience with electrical asset management, unmetered supplies and subcontractor oversight.
* Strong IT skills, especially Excel.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
Why This Role Stands Out
You'll have the space and authority to shape how Doncaster manages its electrical infrastructure. It's an opportunity to take full ownership of a varied and technically interesting asset base, influence investment decisions, and be the person the organisation trusts to make the right engineering call.
If you're looking for a contract where your expertise genuinely matters - not a box‑ticking role - this is it.
