- Remote Role - 2 days on- site per week at Devonport, Plymouth
The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Mechanical building services Engineer to join a world-leading nuclear defense client based out of Devonport dockyard.
Job Overview:
This is a major engineering initiative focused on upgrading a Defence facility in Plymouth, UK, designed to support the Vanguard and future Dreadnought Class submarines. The project has a 10-year timeline and is valued at £1 billion, representing a significant infrastructure development for the UK's Defence sector.
Duties
- Prescribe Mechanical Building Services requirements for design projects.
- Specify Mechanical Building Services aspects in Scope of Work documentation.
- Produce cost estimates and assist commercial departments with tender submissions.
- Provide technical input and support during tender reviews.
- Represent the company at meetings with stakeholders and contractors.
- Oversee Mechanical Building Services designs through regular design reviews and progress meetings.
- Ensure subcontractor designs comply with company standards, industry best practices, and relevant regulations.
- Conduct independent assessments, technical audits, and feasibility reviews as part of design validation.
- Serve as lead author for mechanical design documentation.
- Respond to technical queries from subcontractors.
- Represent Mechanical Services technical expertise across project phases.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for design, operation, and maintenance of:
- Steam & Condensate systems
- Industrial Gases
- Fresh Water and Demineralised Water
- HVAC systems
- Domestic Water services
- Knowledge and experience with:
- BREEAM
- DREAM
- Building Regulations
- Experience in:
- Design consultancy and/or contractor design environments
- Managing small teams of engineers
- Full design lifecycle
- Commissioning and post-installation performance evaluation
- Good computer literacy across relevant digital tools and software.
- Detailed understanding of applicable regulations, legislation, and technical standards for mechanical system design.
- Experience working in nuclear or other high-hazard industries.
- Familiarity with energy reduction strategies and decarbonisation methods for buildings.
- Knowledge of passive design principles and building physics.
