We are now recruiting for various levels and backgrounds of Component Design Engineers to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

Job Purpose:

The Component Engineer will work within cross functional teams and with the global supply chain to deliver product designs for components within the scope of the role. The role requires that the candidate work to integrate all factors into the design process to define the product definition and supporting information.

The role will work on concept product development all through the product lifecycle and be part of the team with product ownership of assigned scope. This will involve working in developing, iterative and ambiguous environments and it is essential the candidate can handle this stage of the product lifecycle.

We have Component Engineering roles available in specific component teams covering the whole component scope of Reactor Island, Turbine Island, Cooling Water Island and Balance of Plant. Ideally you have nuclear experience, but professionals from other industries should be encouraged to apply as we are building a diverse team of talent. We are also looking for various levels of skills and experience, from entry level to expert, to ensure we can develop a balanced team overall.

The team are responsible for product development of a large range of components such as reactor pressure vessels, control rod drive mechanisms, steam generators, pumps, valves, pipework, tanks, vessels, core components, filters, strainers, spargers, ion-exchange columns, reverse osmosis tanks and many others.

  • Pressure Vessel/Equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
  • Rotary equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
  • Thermal equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
  • Mechanical design / manufacture knowledge/experience and/or;
  • Pipework and valves knowledge/experience and/or;
  • General product development knowledge/experience and/or;
  • Systems Engineering & Robust Design knowledge/experience and/or;
  • REDV development and management knowledge/experience

The Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Product knowledge of equipment and/or products relevant to the Nuclear Industry or other applicable, high integrity industries (mentioned in transferrable skills).

  2. Product development, with experience in Concept Generation, Design Evaluations, Calculations, Product Testing and Product Manufacture

  3. Intelligent Customer & Capability: Experience in reviewing technical and commercial bids and making recommendations on supply chain selections.

  4. Communication: Capable of presenting technical and safety case arguments, including the compilation of claims, arguments, and evidence in formal documentation and experience facilitating technical discussions with third parties.

  5. Planning, Coordination and Teamwork: Experience with planning, scheduling, and coordinating your own work and that of others across functional boundaries.

Qualifications & Training:

  • Proven experience from list of transferrable skills
  • BEng or MEng in process, mechanical engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
  • Chartered Engineer, or working towards it
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £35,000 - £65,000 plus:-

  • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
