PermanentWe are currently working with a globally recognized client, who is looking for a Technical Superintendent to join their office in Marseille. With a fleet of 450+ vessels, the successful candidate will benefit from joining a market leading company which operates in 40+ countries.
THE ROLE:
As part of our client’s core services, the company runs operations on over 190+ shipping lines where their fleet of 450+ vessels navigate.
Their designated departments commit to ensuring the best services possible, as well as maintaining schedules.
The role of the Ship Manager is very important within the value chain in the company. At this position, you are the point of contact between the teams at sea and on shore. Within a shipping line, your duty is to ensure the operational monitoring of vessels routes. You will ensure that both the vessels and port operations are running smoothly, by establishing the loading plans in compliance with safety rules and regulations, as well as through the enforcement of the Line business policy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working from the HQ in Marseilles, you will ensure, working closely with Captains and 2nd Officers, the good condition of the vessel’s seaworthiness throughout their routes.
This will be done by ensuring the productivity-improving material equipment as well as the port turnaround times are available, in relation to Terminals and Agents, with different parties of the Line and all operational support teams (Dangerous Cargo Office, Oil Management and more).
You will monitor and manage special loadings such as Reefers, Out of Gauge (OOG, Breakbulk) as well as dangerous cargo; in compliance with the international regulations (IMDG code, ISM and more), as well the companies’ and Line’s instructions.
You will evaluate the feasibility of Changes of Destination (COD) of specific cargos according to their placement on board, following the requests of sales teams, Logistic Department as well as any partners.
You will validate Port Call Reports (PCR) sent by Agents.
You will participate in the development of statistics and ensure the monitoring of bunkers consumption.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience (+ 5 years) from a National Maritime School, ideally Merchant Navy deck officer, with an on-board experience.
Fluent in English (both speaking and writing).
Good command of IT tools.
Good knowledge of specific planning and/or vessels stability calculation software programmes.
Reactive, rigorous and organised, you carry out and anticipate operational tasks, and manage priorities and emergencies
Hygiene, safety and environment rules as well as regulatory framework knowledge
Flexible approach of working hours (you may be expected to work on evenings/weekends).
