Project Engineer – Foundation Brakes in Gaydon, Warwickshire

Job Purpose:

The role is for a Project Engineer with the engineering responsibility for the design and development of the foundation braking system, from concept through to production

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design & release of foundation braking system.
  • Lead Chassis CAD engineers to deliver concept system layout and component package maturation.
  • Collaborate with brakes attribute team to develop system performance targets.
  • Manage external suppliers to design and develop systems and components that meet specified requirements and targets, ensuring parts are delivered on time and to the required quality standard. Provide prototype components for vehicle and rig tests where required.
  • Work closely with Chassis VLM teams to enable swift and accurate deployment of components and systems across all vehicle model lines.
  • Lead DFMEAs, quality history reviews, robustness studies, DVP and Final Engineering Sign Off reporting.
  • Lead CAE work and rig testing for system validation, and support vehicle development and validation testing where required
  • Keep abreast of technical developments within the industry and conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs & future trends. Analyse and recommend suitability of carry-over or modular systems to optimise platform commonality.
  • Produce Design Manuals, Engineering Standards & Specifications and best practice documentation to aid 'Right First Time' system delivery

Qualification & Experience:

  • Extensive component engineering experience within an automotive OEM or automotive components supplier.
  • Good working knowledge of brakes development, design and engineering requirements and their function with respect to chassis systems and vehicle dynamics performance.
  • Good working knowledge of VIS Mockup and Teamcenter
  • Competent in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good working knowledge of Engineering Quality processes and tools such as D-FMEA, 6-sigma, 8D
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and actively participate in creation and development of innovative design solutions within the R&D environment.
  • Knowledge of MISSION or an equivalent Product Creation System such as GPDS, FPDS, AMPCS.
  • Experience of delivery of CCM, CCB or high performance cast iron braking systems on an OEM vehicle programme.
  • Component or system level rig testing experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAE & post processing tools preferred but not essential
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX preferred but not essential
  • Engineering degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Completion of Bradford Road Vehicle Braking short course or equivalent
