My client, a consultancy, are looking for an Infrastructure engineer to join their fast paced team on an initial 6 month contract.
On the job details
Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs infrastructure supporting software programs for enhancements and new products. Develops tools in support of design, infrastructure and technology platforms, including operating systems, routers, networks, utilities, cloud-based (Azure) and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.
The role of the IT Infrastructure Engineer is to design, build, deploy and maintain the organization's Information Technology infrastructure with a focus on Azure cloud architecture. This is an individual contributor role responsible for making the computing systems work efficiently and ensuring the services run smoothly.
Key Role and Responsibilities:
Update hardware required for maintenance of servers and the network
Fixing any issues arising and detecting system and application issues
Ensure optimum uptime for complete network services and servers
Improves, plans capacity, and design for infrastructure engineering projects
Ensure that the technical performance aspects in the infrastructure environment are optimized, including database, network, and application server performance
Design solutions from identified needs and assess current systems to secure the best practices and balance by complying with relevant policies and procedures
Troubleshooting infrastructure supporting applications and providing relevant platform application deployment,
Monitors administration of operating systems such as Windows, Linux, etc.
Partner with the application development team on application building, implementation and fixing of issues
Build and install Azure infrastructure components on networks and servers
Stating, applying, and enforcing processes for promoting all infrastructure components, i.e. infrastructure as code
Ensure that the infrastructure components are working in tandem and can be executed without compilation errors in various platforms and environments
Manage the host environment to ensure proper tuning plus capacity
Collaborate and participate in activities to drive and ensure knowledge improvement
Set up and configure servers and virtual machines
Manage on-premises and cloud storage systems
Troubleshoot problems associated with infrastructures and systems
Maintain IT infrastructure best practices and follow the necessary security regulations
Communicate with partners and vendors on behalf of the company
Recommend infrastructure upgrades for optimal performance to the management
Knowledge, skills and attributes:
Knowledgeable about network and security concepts, server and storage, and tuning techniques and system performance configuration
Ability to explain technical information to people from non-technical backgrounds
Conversant with systems administration
Understand how network hardware and technologies work, alongside server and storage technologies
Knowledge of DevOps practices
Knowledge of data privacy laws
Proficiency with Azure cloud architecture
Good understanding of how systems interact with one another, working with a variety of software
Ability to solve technical problems and apply analytical skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to communicate with partners and vendors on behalf of the company
Good project management skills
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a computer science or information technology field
Azure certifications
Experience required:
Exposure to networking in Windows server and Linux, TCP/IP environment, virtualization technologies, and OS performance monitoring with a focus in Azure architecture
Demonstrated experience in performance optimization and system/application tuning
