Overall Department Direction

A significant program of infrastructure investment is required on the Devonport site to meet the needs of the future MOD ship and submarine programs. A new Major Infrastructure Projects' (MIP) Team has been established to undertake a range of major projects at Devonport, including the design, build, and commissioning of submarine maintenance facilities for Astute Class submarines.

The portfolio is expanding and we are growing the team. The role is permanent and based at either Bristol or Devonport.

Main Purpose of Role
This section should cover the more specific aspects of the post and summarise the requirements of the role. The purpose of the Assistant Chief Engineer (EC&I) post is:
* To support the MIP Design Authority and MIP Office of the Chief Engineer in establishing and confirming design intent by providing expertise in the governance and assurance of major project design and oversight of verification and validation of the design meeting requirements with respect to electrical, control and instrumentation.

Current projects governed by MIP Design Authority include 10 Dock, 5 Basin East Wall Berths, O2 Workshop and SADP(F) in 8 Dock, as well as a number of early scoping studies. This portfolio is expanding and our remit widening.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
This section can cover any knowledge and experience needed to carry out the role and also any desirable skills and competencies that may be required for the post.
To include:
* Sound understanding of EC&I engineering design practice.
* Understanding of Major Project design governance and assurance in the nuclear industry.
* Understanding and experience in validation and verification of EC&I requirements, including IEC 61508.
* Understanding and experience in configuration management of EC&I systems.
* Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications, for example, MathCAD, Navisworks.

Qualifications
This section should state the required qualification needed. This should be in line with the TORR's and banding of the role. To include:
Academic:
* A degree in an appropriate electrical engineering discipline (or equivalent)
* Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council (or working towards)
Nuclear (training can be provided where required):
