  • Remote, with Occasional visits to Devonport Dockyard
  • Per diem available dependent on Location
  • Current SC Clearance Is Mandatory

ARM's Energy Division is seeking several skilled Principal Safety Engineers Working Remotely for our Nuclear Civil client located in the Devonport Dockyard/Plymouth area.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Ensuring nuclear safety requirements are incorporated into design projects by providing nuclear safety input.
  • Establishing and agreeing upon Safety Case Strategy.
  • Overseeing the delivery of work within agreed cost and schedule, meeting the expectations of Key Stakeholders such as Safety Case Managers, Safety Case Owners, Client Team, Safety Committee, INSA/Peer Review, NSC, and Regulators.
  • Generating, reviewing, and endorsing calculations, analyses, design basis documentation, and technical reports.
  • Serving as a primary Point of Contact between the Engineering Delivery Team, Construction Experts, Operators, Safety Assessors, Site Safety Case Managers, and other Stakeholders, fostering necessary communication and coordination.
  • Participating and leading in Hazard Identification studies.
  • Coordinating safety submission production and validating all specialist safety input.
  • Supporting submissions through various review and approval stages.
  • Evaluating and approving design changes, concessions, and technical inquiries.
  • Managing risks of projects by wrapping up safety items on the Technical Issues and Risk Register Database.
  • Devising quality plans for single-discipline work packages.
  • Establishing, evaluating, and approving technical Scopes of Work, assessing tender returns, then validating/approving the outputs to ensure that the design sub-contract requirements are met.
  • Giving feedback regarding lessons learned for use in future stages of the ongoing project and others.
  • Specialized knowledge of safety case in areas such as submarines, hydrogen, chemotoxic, etc.

do you need to succeed?

  • In-depth knowledge and 15 years of relevant experience directing and conducting radiological safety assessments and/or INSA/Peer Review.
  • Background in cross-industry exposure and comprehensive understanding of various nuclear facilities and their operations.
  • Proficient in developing and generating safety documentation for projects, such as Hazard Management Strategy, Safety Reports (PSRs, PCSRs, etc., and equivalents), and ALARP arguments, with expertise in coordinating the production of safety submissions along with specialist safety input.
  • Well-versed in regulatory negotiation, safety management, and provision of specialist advice.
  • Skilled in managing teams to complete large, technically complex, and fit-for-purpose safety cases.
  • Demonstrated leadership in pivotal technical areas, inspiring innovation and driving value-added activities.
  • Experience in mentoring, training, and nurturing junior staff.
  • Must be a Current SC Clearance Holder
