EDM - Administrator

The aim of this document is to describe the purpose, typical duties, and expectations of the EDM - Administrator within Gordon Murray Design.

Principal Accountabilities:

The key accountabilities of the Engineering Database Management (EDM) function are to control new part number allocation and an indented BoM (Bill of Materials,) structure for all projects ensuring accurate BoM roll up functionality for product cost and weight. In addition, the function ensures that Engineering releases are correctly documented and recorded in the BoM.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Company's Design, Engineering and Technical Procurement functions to ensure the BoM is accurate with regards to part specification, weight, and cost.
  • Generate vehicle BoM status reports as required.
  • Support Design, Engineering and Purchasing activities through ensuring Design Office drawings are accurate and liaise with suppliers following the release of drawings.
  • Managing the transfer and storage of CAD data both to the Company and from the Company to external suppliers.
  • Assist with the creation and documentation of part specific composite layup manuals, and the transfer of these manuals to external suppliers.
  • Support the development and implementation of a PLM and ERP systems.
  • To monitor system efficiency and propose changes to improve working functionality.
  • Use high level Product specifications to develop an initial BoM to support concept cost and timing.
  • Carry out any other duties that may be requested of you.

Qualification and Experience:

It is anticipated that you will have at least 2 years' experience in the relevant automotive industry and have evident experience working within a demanding team environment.

You will be expected to have a solid understanding of design standards, material standards and engineering drawing standards. A good working knowledge of whole vehicle design is essential.

In addition, the following attributes are expected.

  • Proven success in applying design standards in automotive or other applicable industries.
  • Experience of engineering drawing standards, specifically BS8888
  • Capable of reading engineering drawings from a manufacturing and material supply perspective
  • Clear and effective communication
  • Relevant experience in CATIA V5
  • Knowledge of 3D Experience and/or IFS a distinct advantage.

Miscellaneous:

  • To perform any other duties that may well be expected within the remit of the role.
  • To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities for Gordon Murray Design, the job also involves similar duties to be conducted for any future subsidiary companies within the Gordon Murray Group.
