Job Overview
Are you a Business Development Manager with experience working within the Maritime or Defence sector? Working with a global leader in the design, manufacture and maintenance of high-speed maritime applications for the defence and security markets, our client is seeking an experienced business development professional to play a crucial role in driving the growth of the organization by generating and submitting high-quality tender proposals, quotations, and refit programs for Military & Professional boats within Defence and security markets. With a primary focus on Europe, you will collaborate with a small sales team covering the global market, requiring flexibility in handling diverse projects and territories.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing customer requirements and specifications, defining tender requirements.
- Interpret client's commercial needs, identifying and mitigating any associated risks.
- Develop, prepare, and submit tenders, quotations, and PDS programs for new business.
- Produce accurate and timely proposals meeting customer requirements and commercial targets.
- Liaise with suppliers and sub-contractors for relevant information.
- Prepare cost build-ups and present final cost prices for management approval.
- Lead 'bid review,' 'bid clarification,' and 'sales handover' meetings.
- Coordinate with departmental and technical managers to manage customer inquiries.
- Maintain a sales and marketing focus in proposals and stakeholder interactions.
- Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings, contributing to process improvements.
- Maintain the enquiry database and CRM to track conversion rates and improve future proposals.
- Attend exhibitions, give presentations, and undertake relevant research.
- Write high-quality technical and commercial documents, presenting to internal and external audiences.
- Provide technical advice and liaison with internal/external stakeholders, clients, and the MoD.
- Be flexible to travel in the UK and overseas as required.
Qualifications
- Degree Qualified with a sound engineering background.
- Experience and interest in small high-speed watercraft preferred.
- Proficiency in other languages advantageous.
- Confident working under pressure with a result-oriented approach.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Experience in cost estimation and technical quotation preparation.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Excellent management skills of subordinates.
- Ability to focus on the task at hand while switching between multiple tasks as demand dictates.
- Experience in dealing with both internal and external customers.
- Experience within a Sales/Proposal office environment.
- Strong product and application knowledge with the ability to interpret customer inquiries.
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, including MS Project.
