Raoul Popesu-Ghimis, Senior Chassis Performance Consultant at Jaguar Land Rover
"Expect a lot from your recruitment company. They need to understand your aspirations and expectations and have the drive to help you succeed in meeting your career goals."
“When you find a recruiter that can be trusted to have your best interests at heart then stick with them and don’t look back.” These are the words of Raoul Popesu-Ghimis who, since being introduced to the company in November 2011, has trusted ARM to help propel his career in the automotive industry. He explains his experience of working with a recruitment consultancy and how to get the very best from the relationship.
Where are you currently working?
I have a niche area of expertise in the automotive industry that focuses on vehicle dynamics and chassis concepts using multibody system methods. It is a skill set that is very much in demand. Currently I work at Jaguar Land Rover, where I am putting my talents to good use. I am in charge of the complete chassis layout and performance development across different platforms, developing one of Jaguar's most iconic sports car.
How did you break into the industry?
My career began studying Automotive Engineering at the Politehnica University of Bucharest and Motorsport Engineering at Coventry University where I was awarded a first class BEng (Hons). I then went on to attain an MSc in Vehicle Dynamics (including Prodrive course).
What contribution has ARM made in your career to date?
I was first introduced to ARM back in 2011 whilst working as a Vehicle Dynamics Consultant at MIRA Ltd. The ARM team took me under their wing, so when I spotted a fantastic opportunity at Jaguar Land Rover in June 2012, I knew that ARM would be the right company to represent me.
That is high praise indeed! Can you explain why made this decision?
I have confidence in my own skills and I have complete trust in the expertise of the team at ARM. As a recruitment consultancy it offers the complete package. They take the time to really understand the specific and detailed requirements of both the candidate and the client. What is more, as a contractor I know they are always prompt with payment and swift in response to my enquiries.
I would also single out Richard Brown (a Team Leader at ARM specialising in automotive engineering) for particular praise. Of all the recruiters I have worked with, he is the most consummate professional I have met in the industry. He also has a background in engineering which is quite amazing.
What advice would you give to other candidates looking to develop their careers?
Expect a lot from your recruitment company. They need to understand your aspirations and expectations and have the drive to help you succeed in meeting your career goals, helping you to find the right positions and negotiating the best deal on your behalf.
I have worked hard to achieve my qualifications, skills and expertise so I want to put them to good use and be rewarded accordingly. With ARM I can be assured that if I am looking for a specific job they will know exactly what I want.
