Our innovative automotive client based in Yarnton, Oxfordshire are looking for a Works Manager to oversee the manufacturing staff of their hybrid commercial vehicles. Initially based in their head office in Yarnton but could move within a 10 miles radius as production increases.

Reports to the Project Director
To provide day to day management, advice and support to ensure the effective prototype build process for the R&D hybrid electric automotive project. Contributing effective processes to optimise the R&D plan with a view to follow on production, utilising lean techniques so that quality products are produced, on time and on budget.
o To oversee the Prototype build process and build support for the activities of the R&D prototype build team
o To provide day to day management, guidance and support to the team to ensure the team are working together to achieve the objectives
o To identify team training and development needs regularly reviewing and recommending performance and timely updates to the Project Director
o To produce prototype detail build schedules and to effectively plan the resources of the team to ensure timings agreed with the Project Director are met
o To ensure each build meets the appropriate quality control standards and compliance, liaising with Projects, R&D, Product, Procurement and Homologation teams
o Monitoring sub-contractors to ensure any work carried out meets the agreed standards and is compliant with Health and Safety requirements.
o To take responsibility for the workshop equipment together with the Equipment Asset Register and to ensure appropriate maintenance and compliance with H&S and legislative standards including COSH
o To carry out and complete risk assessments with the prototype build team
o Apply lean principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve processes and products
o Create 'step by step' standard operating procedures for the prototype build projects
o To work with the team with regards to project planning, selection of equipment and suppliers.
o An ambassador driving continuous improvement in prototype build development, health & Safety, quality and efficiency
o A high level of competence and proven practical application gained within a similar automotive environment to support and develop lean and design manufacturing processes
o Well-developed IT Microsoft Office and Project Management IT skills e.g. Microsoft Project
o Passionate to drive delivery and optimise quality systems and processes
o A proactive 'hands on' approach
o Strong organisational and analytical skills together with commercial awareness
o Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills with the ability to lead, develop and motivate a team
o Resilience and determination to succeed
o Flexible with the ability to multi task and to manage changing priorities.
Applications are welcomed from people with a background in prototype build through to production, and overseeing technicians whilst remaining hands on. Ideal background would include motorsport of commercial vehicles.
