Test Technician - Portable Emissions (PEMS)

Salary; £28,000 - £35,000 + Pension + Life Assurance

A globally known FTSE100 company are looking for a number of automotive technicians to be based onsite at their engine test facility in Bedfordshire. The client offers engineering solutions to the automotive market and are looking to increase their workforce due to a strategic growth plan. As a Vehicle Emissions Technician there won't be two days the same. Within their engines facility and out on public roads you will be responsible for maintaining multiple vehicle emissions tests simultaneously in regards to the development of customer emission programmes.

The client is at the forefront of the market for engine development and currently specialise mostly within the automotive sector. Boasting around 27 test cells they are constantly growing and opening new test cells within their facility. New requirements from the government state that exhaust emissions must be tested/collected out on public road where all the test variables cannot be controlled therefore vehicles are fitted within on-board emissions measurement systems.

Ideally you will be currently working within an emissions testing environment in either the automotive, aerospace, off-highway, truck or bus industry either in a test cell facility or on portable emissions. You will be installing engines on to test equipment and vice-versa, calibrating equipment, performing tests, carrying out vehicle safety checks and driving the vehicles during on-road tests.


- Minimum City & Guilds in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering or time served as an apprentice.
- Full understanding of Gasoline/Diesel engines emissions.
- Knowledge, usage and calibration of test hardware/software.
- Knowledge and usage of test instrumentation and sensors.
- Knowledge and usage of tools such as CANape or Inca.
- Experience of engine building and stripping.
- A clean driver's license - proving ground experience would be great!

The working hours for this role will be 8.00am - 16.30pm Monday to Friday where roughly 75% of the time will be spent driving/carrying out the test.
