Job Description

Systems Communications Engineer

Must have current SC clearance

System Engineering Support Engineer for SPEAR3 Data Link Communications Sub-System Development covering support to the following areas:

o Link 16 Network design and performance assessment;
o Data link communications sub-system architecture;
o Design module development;
o Requirements management;
o Communications sub-system behaviour model;
o Data link and aircraft Interoperability assessment;
o Customer Working Groups as required (primarily Communications Sub-Working Group);
o Coordinate with MoD to establish network design in support of network enabled connectivity/weapons (NEC/NEW).

Additional Job Details:

Essential: Knowledge/Experience:

o Sound understanding of Systems engineering process and use of systems methods and tools; including requirements management (DOORS), system architecture and proving;
o Good understanding of Communication Systems and communications protocols;
o Good understanding of data link networking (NEC/NEW).
o Communication system development;
o Development and implementation of Data Links (preferably Link 16) Sub-Systems.
o Use of data link simulation tools;
o Use of System Modelling using SysML (& UML) (preferably using Rhapsody), requirements management (DOORS) and MS tools;
o Working with MoD Customer, with familiarity of MoD acquisition processes and procedures;
o Working with US suppliers and TAA procedures. Core Competence/Achievements:
o A systematic thinker with the ability to solve problems in a structured manner;
o An ability to adapt to changing priorities, programme needs and tasks;
o Good analytical and problem solving skills;
o Good interpersonal skills;
o Excellent communication skills - verbal and written;
o Relevant Engineering or Science based Degree (or equivalent). Highly Desirable:

Knowledge/Experience:

o Network design and working with Joint Data Link Management Organisation (JDLMO);
o Basic TEMPEST, RF, EMI/RFI, EMC experience;
o Development & implementation of Data Link (preferably Link 16) Sub-System Assembly Integration and Test activities Functional Competence/Achievements:
o Higher relevant Engineering or Science based Degree (or equivalent);
o CEng (or equivalent)
