STEERING SYSTEM ENGINEER
Our automotive OEM client is looking for a Steering Systems Engineer to join them on an initial 6 months basis with a view to extend. This will be based at their Technical Centre in Longbridge.
Job DescriptionOVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To define steering system requirements and specify suitable solutions for UK projects. To deliver integrated systems for global markets.
" Define the activities of the Steering Engineer within the UK Chassis group, to satisfy project demands.
" Identify all steering system requirements through whole vehicle and system benchmarking.
" Generation of System Specifications for Steering Systems.
" Generation of Test and Validation plans for Steering Systems.
" Provide technical assistance (subjective and objective) to inform the concept definition of steering systems.
" Tuning of steering systems for all markets, with regard to brand attribute definitions.
" Conducting test procedures at proving grounds.
" Assisting China team in problem solving and technical issues.
SCOPE OF THE JOB
" Deliver steering system targets and tuning to satisfy UK programmes. Results will inform global market delivery.
Reporting to the head of UK Chassis with workload direction from UK Programme management office.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
" Significant delivery experience of EPS steering systems.
" Experience of setting engineering targets at vehicle, system and component level.
" A sound specific component and system knowledge with a broad understanding of vehicle integration and the overall vehicle delivery process.
" Able and willing to travel and provide coaching.
" Knowledge of change management activities and processes.
" Excellent communication skills at all levels within all functions including board level.
" A flexible, positive, enthusiastic, open minded and committed attitude, so as to deliver in difficult and changing circumstances.
" Excellent leadership, organisational & prioritisation skills.
" A high degree of advanced road driving, limit handling and vehicle assessment skills are required.
" Data logging and post processing skills are useful.
" Design for Six Sigma knowledge or qualification required - full training will be provided by the company.
