Job Description

Senior Principal Design Engineer

Permanent
£55,000- £62,000 + Benefits (Company car/allowance + private family healthcare + flexible working scheme + more)

Commutable from; Northampton, Coventry, Rugby, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Daventry.



Purpose of Job
To supervise design and analysis work on engine, vehicle and other engineering projects as required by the business.

Duties
To prepare and approve engineering programme quotations
To generate and implement design department procedures, resource and cost project plans
To monitor the timing and budgetary performance of design-only projects against project plans
To generate, evaluate and select design solutions for individual components, component systems and complete powertrains
To liaise with programme suppliers and external customers
To provide technical support to projects
To contribute to technical capability of the design department
To monitor and assess the performance and development of staff and mentor as required, identifying training needs

Qualifications
A Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline with extensive powertrain design experience or alternatively, a HND supported by extensive industry experience.
A postgraduate qualification / Chartered status would be an advantage
Skills and Experience
Relevant experience in the field of powertrain design engineering gained within an automotive OEM or preferably consultancy environment is preferred
Good level of base engine knowledge and fundamental engineering principles is essential
Able to supervise and motivate others
Ability to lead and work as part of a team
Presentation and negotiation skills
Creative problem solving skills
Detail conscious with an appreciation of customer requirements

Competencies
Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
Confidence to communicate effectively at all levels
Must be self-motivated and possess the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner and with appropriate attention to detail
Ability to work well under pressure and to strict time constraints
Flexibility and willingness to travel to customer sites for both long and short durations (including secondments)
