Job Description

Job Title: Senior Hardware Engineer
Location: Southampton
Rate: Up to £42.70 per hour

A market leading defence & security prime are now seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join their team in Southampton. This is an initial 6 month contract with rates of up to £42.70 per hour Ltd. Due to the nature of the work, all applicants must be able and willing to obtain SC clearance.

The primary purpose of this position is to support both new products and in-house test, the organisation are primarily responsible for the development and manufacture of infrared detectors for commercial, industrial, space and military applications.

This role will be supporting an exciting new project which will be starting early in 2018.

Skills Required

" Degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent)
" Management of electronics design projects to achieve requirements within cost and time
" Use of Schematic Capture tools (Mentor Graphics, Proteus or equivalent)
" Ability to communicate technical information within the company and to customers
" Demonstrate evidence of good organisation, planning, cost control and execution of work
" Ability to work in a team with other engineering and science disciplines
" Good Communication and customer liaison skills

Desirable Skills

" Practical 'hands on' laboratory test, circuit construction and measurement experience
" Knowledge of device drivers and communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, USB, Camera Link).
" Experience of hardware design using FPGA components
" Experience in designing with video bandwidth op-amps for low noise applications
" Experience of working with Analogue to Digital converters
" Experience of working with high level hardware description languages such as Verilog, (IEEE1364) and VHDL
" Experience in undertaking component selection and de-rating analysis
" Familiarity with integrated design tools such as Quartus® II/Prime software
" Familiarity with tools such as HDL designer and Model Sim
" Analysis of hardware designs to determine the optimum FPGA solution - This would include determining pin allocations, considering timing constraints, anticipating the required code block size
" Experience of porting intellectual property (IP) functions and subsystems into an FPGA
" Ability to work to MIL-STD and IPC-610 specifications
" Practical soldering/workshop skills
" Ideally experience of working in the Defence Sector
