Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Salary from; £40,000 - £50,000 + benefits

An opportunity for a Hardware Designer has arisen to work for a tier 1 automotive supplier based in Hertfordshire. The client is known globally for their electrical/electronic systems supplying to some of the biggest automotive OEM names on the market. These products include electrical distribution systems, instrument clusters, head-up displays, body electronics, stop-start systems, combi-switches and more- designing, developing and manufacturing them for current and future vehicle programmes.

As a hardware design engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of full-lifecycle hardware design and development programmes working from concept through to mass production. You will have overall design responsibility for your programmes and be able to deputise for the lead/principal hardware engineer in their absence.

Ideally, you will currently be working as a hardware design engineer, electronics design engineer or similar and must be within an automotive environment- either OEM, tier 1 or consultancy. You will be responsible for managing your own projects against quality, cost and time.


- An automotive background is a must!
- Ideally degree qualified in an electronics or electrical based engineering field.
- Good knowledge of hardware design tools for schematic capture and simulation; ideally Mentor Graphics Xpedition.
- Good knowledge of automotive hardware; either instrument clusters, body electronics, body controls, head-up displays (HUD) or power electronics.
- Knowledge of thermal management for electronic systems at PCB level.
- PCB layout - again in Mentor Graphics.
- Knowledge of LCD, PCB and Smart MOSFET technologies.
