This is a challenging and important opening within an automotive engineering consultancy for a proven development engineer. The company has developed strong business relationships with automotive clients in locations such as Europe, Brazil, India, China, and the Middle East and part of the role may require some time spent at client locations developing and managing brakes research projects and providing SME support and knowledge.

Secondments could be a few times a year and most likely within Europe and may typically be a couple of weeks at a time. Hence candidates with visa restrictions that prevent frequent to travel to previously stated locations may not be eligible.
This is a highly customer focused role that involves enquiry support, project scope/ approach definition, project delivery, testing, project reporting, research and development of new and current technology and continuous improvement of internal process and procedure. Although focused on brakes systems from passenger cars (e.g. IC Engine (gasoline, diesel), hybrid, electric); knowledge of our other key chassis attributes / ideally whole vehicle development.

Specification and preparation of instrumentation, Test procedure development and brake testing (performance and noise) and test management, Specification of brake systems/ components/ requirements, Brake system development and refinement, subjective assessment of vehicle characteristics and liaison with electronic assistance system suppliers, undertaking internal research activities to advance industry technology and capabilities, generation of proposals and reports. Also presentation and technology transfer to customers and support of industry forums and events
Skills / Knowledge Required:
" HNC / HND / Degree qualified or equivalent in an automotive or mechanical engineering subject.
" Clean Driving license
" Experience of brake development and test (including hydraulic and air systems) applying skills to a wide variety of vehicles. This should also ideally include hybrid vehicle and EV brake systems.
" Attention to detail, customer liaison skills, ability to deliver, working with overseas customers in foreign territories.
" A relevant Masters degree
" HGV and other vehicle licenses
" Extensive commercial or military vehicle experience. Experience of working with and developing ABS, stability control and other related electronic assistance systems.
" Foreign languages would be a positive addition.
It is likely that the successful candidate would have worked as a test engineer, development engineer or project engineer within an OEM, tier 1 supplier, a consultancy or aftermarket component organisation with the foundation brake systems.
Needs to have an in-depth knowledge and experience of brakes engineering the role demands. The successful candidate is likely to have had at least 10 years experience in the brake industry within the development and test environment. A broad range of experience covering passenger car and commercial vehicle brake systems would be ideal.
