Job DescriptionJob Title: Project Engineering Lead
Location: RAF Coningsby, Lincoln
Salary: up to £50,000 + benefits
One of the world's largest defence organisations are now seeking a Project Engineering Lead (PEL) to join their team in Lincoln on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will ideally be currently SC Cleared or must be able to obtain SC Clearance. We cannot consider your application if you do not meet this criteria.
The PEL will be responsible for the capture, reporting, generation and implementation of product and service optimisation activities in order to reduce the number of Avionics Arising events and deliver service efficiencies (in both sustainment and improvement); with the focus on cost avoidance, opportunity realisation, asset availability and increased Customer satisfaction across their programme.
Key Responsibility Areas
" Acting as the principal point of contact for optimisation activities, providing direction and leadership to the optimisation team.
" Managing and evolving the optimisation processes to deliver to ensure maximum benefit is delivered.
" Working closely with otherteams, the Service Delivery Manager and the wider teams to understand and capture issues affecting the delivery of the programme (e.g. test capability shortfalls, obsolescence, recurring failures/queries, NFF/NAA rate management, and process improvement).
" Ownership of the Optimisation Programme registers as a single source of truth for the capture and monitoring progression/status for all activities relating to 'cost avoidance', 'opportunity' and 'service optimisation' within the scope
" Managing the Optimisation team to analyse and report performance including, but not limited to:
o Predicted vs actual arising rates
o Achievement of 'Baked in' service delivery cost savings
o Stock Availability and Service Impact
" Working closely with the wider Lines of Business to gain a digest of the contributing factors affecting the performance of the product range.
" Generate 'spend to save' business cases for optimisation activities, including: initial capture activities, in-depth cost saving analysis, development of budgets and project plans, and defined tangible benefits to enable project feasibility assessments.
" Leading the agenda for a culture of 'continuous improvement' and 'best practice' throughout, by offering coaching and advice in the development of tangible activities which nurture innovation and invention in a positive but controlled manner.
" Developing and conducting compliance audits and programme evaluations/reviews to drive results with the fortitude to ensure optimisation activities are complete, embedded and enduring.
" Delivering regular progress and performance reports as directed by the Transformation Manager and Project Engineering Manager.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
" Experience delivering projects to MOD/in defence environment
" Strong Engineering background, specifically aligned to Through Life Cycle management, analytics and problem solving.
" Experience of working with multi-company collaborations or within a partnered working environment.
" Financially aware and have demonstrable experience in successfully managing and delivering complex projects on time, within budget and to a high standard
" Strong leadership skills and experience in managing multi-skilled and geographically dispersed team.
" Ability to work with and influence others in a fact paced environment.
" An excellent and confident communicator, able to engage with and influence multiple internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
" Adaptable and innovative - open to new ideas and skilled to lead change initiatives.
" Strong numeracy and literacy skills
" Awareness of the TyTAN/JAS or other Typhoon in-service support programmes
" Demonstrated knowledge of Typhoon avionics systems
" Working knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles would be beneficial
" Experience in change management or transformation programmes
" This is an off-site (Customer based) role where the primary location is a fully operational RAF base.
" Regular short-duration UK and European travel with overnight stays may be required.
