Job Description

Job title: Power Supply Design Engineer
Location: Fyfield, Essex, Uk
Salary: £40,000 to £55,000 + Benefits

You will be working as a Power Supply Design Engineer for a leading provider of electronic power supply solutions with operations throughout Europe, Asia and North America.


As a Power Supply Design Engineer you will be a member of the R&D team, and you will be responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and other hardware systems. You will determine design approaches and parameters.

Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:

o Design of AC/DC switch mode power supplies 40W to 1500W, utilizing various electrical topologies.
o Design and development of power supply products from concept to volume production whilst ensuring that the design meets performance specifications, cost & reliability targets.
o Complies with required regulatory standards.
o Adheres to Design for Manufacture (DFM) guidelines.
o Liaising with cross-functional team (PCB layout, Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing and Quality engineering) to facilitate the design process.
o Liaising with international manufacturing locations during development and product infancy to maximize production yields.
o Selection of raw materials, components and suppliers based on product performance specifications, reliability and regulatory requirements.
o Research and Evaluation of new technologies.
o Participation in internal design reviews.
o Design Verification Testing.
o Technical Report writing.
o Engineering Change Order/Notice generation.
o Test equipment/Hardware design and build.
o Electrical design of new and modified products, ensure products designs are cost effective and design for manufacturing.
o Performs cost analysis and produces cost estimates.
o Directs customer support.
o Performs complex bench or DV test for the qualification of products.
o Performs reliability prediction calculations and reports.
o Responsible for root causes analysis on products, technical problems and documentation.
o Performs other duties and responsibilities when required.

Qualifications, Education or Equivalent:

o Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of job related experience.
o Must understand business strategies and have a high level of understanding for the business flow.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

o Experience of digital hardware design.
o Knowledge of power conversion principles, topologies and soft switching techniques and technologies.
o Experience of designing EMI filters / PCB layouts for minimum EMI.
o Self-motivation, initiative and drive.
o Working knowledge of circuit design and simulation.
o Experience with electronic packaging, electronic power supplies and power conversion products.
o Through understanding of Control theory.
o Ability to write and analyse design documentation.
o Strong project management experience and supervisory skills.
o Ability to make economic judgments with respect to product cost and manufacturing process.
o Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills.
o Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
o Ability to work in a fast paced environment and complete tasks with minimum supervision
